Update on Civic Issues and the DHA-9 form

All South African Citizens including dual citizens living abroad must keep their South African passports valid at all times when abroad.  It is advisable to apply for your new passport 12 months before expiry of your current passport.

South African citizens must enter and depart South Africa with their valid South African passport only.  A South African citizen entering South Africa with a foreign passport will be subjected to a fine or imprisonment (in terms of the South African Citizenship Act, 1995)

All births registrations must take place within 30 days of the birth of a child (in terms of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1992.)

Application Forms and Information

DHA 24 (all categories) and DHA 9 have a unique bar code therefore cannot be downloaded because an original form is required. These can be completed at the office during the appointment.

SERVICES AT 15 WHITEHALL (HOME AFFAIRS)

Services at 15 Whitehall (Home affairs) are now rendered strictly by appointment.

In order to minimize the number of people visiting our office, and to keep everyone safe, we encourage postal applications where possible, especially for child passport applications and birth registration.

Please follow the steps below:

Step No 1:

Download guidelines and application forms using this link.

You will provided with DHA 9  to complete at the office during your appointment

Step No 2:

Complete all forms received and prepare your supporting documents per guidelines.

Step No 3:

Send your request for an appointment at: Civic.appointments@dirco.gov.za. The request must include:

Full names and ID number of the applicant as well as the type of Service required.

POSTAL APPLICATIONS

Step No 1:

Download guidelines and application forms using this link.

Request additional application forms (forms with unique bar code) by sending an A4 Self -addressed pre- paid (1st class Large stamp) envelope (per applicant) with a note stating the forms required and the age of the applicant.

NB: Royal Mail: If the postage stamp on the envelope is insufficient or the envelope is the wrong size, the forms will NOT be mailed to you.

Step No 2:

Fully complete all forms received and prepare your supporting documents per guidelines received.

PASSPORT COLLECTION

Passport collections are strictly from 1400 to 1500 hours Monday to Friday, except on Public holidays. No other services will be rendered during the time allocated for passport collections.

No application forms will be handed out during collection.

Services at Whitehall

Emergency Travel Document

South African citizens who already lodged applications for Emergency Travel Documents will be contacted individually and will be provided with a collection date, the date will be on a Tuesday or Thursday. Dates will be allocated according to date of Travel as per air tickets submitted.

People who were scheduled for November 2020 appointments to lodge Emergency Travel Document applications will be provided dates to submit applications, dates will be provided according to dates of travel. Emergency cases involving bereavement will receive priority.

Passports collection

If you have received notification that your passport is ready for collection, please use the postal option, procedure is on the notification email. Passports/Certificates will be dispatched once a week until the office re-opens.

Other applications

Please continue to send your applications by post.

Letters of retention will be processed and dispatched once a week during lockdown, until the office re-opens.
